Critical Pedagogy: Developing Conceptual Understanding Through Student-Centered Numeracy Instruction

Instructional Workshop will cover the following: •Review our math instructional philosophy •Identify questions to ask about our own math instruction •Introduce and explore the math instructional strategies toolbox •Review instructional video and identify next step strategies •Plan for upcoming math lessons with the instructional strategies toolbox
Objectives
As a result of the session, participants will: • Reflect on their own experiences as learners in math• Identify and discuss three ways in which to promote critical thinking and problem solving through numeracy instruction • Explore the Numeracy Strategies Playbook • Improve upcoming lesson design by incorporating at least one new strategy into instruction
