030-The Importance of Creating a System for Promoting Family Culture
Teachers will create a system for promoting family culture by developing a family friendly video to address the concerns and confusion around the information needed on the Home Language Survey (HLS) portion of the CREC school lottery application. We will create a YouTube video to inform parents about the HLS and the importance of answering the questions accurately. The parents can use the captions on the video to access the information in their home language. This will allow the approachability of the information to all parents of all languages. This PD will also work on addressing and revising the HLS to ask the proper questions in order to address the language needs of the families. Through this work, we continue the work of having the faculty and staff build healthy relationships with students and families by understanding their student’s language and culture, with the overall goal that engagement in school will improve, while using as a guide the book entitled: Unpack Your Impact by Naomi O'Brien & Lanesha Tabb.
