Basics of Problem Gambling for Peer/Recovery Coaches, Tana Russell
This interactive session will provide attendees a chance to share what they have learned (or think they have learned) about gambling and problem gambling so far, and what areas they need to learn more about in order to best serve those they work with. It will provide a basic overview of the complex and co-occurring relationship between gambling problems, substance use, mental and emotional health, and even other addictive behaviors such as problem video gaming and compulsive spending. Attendees will learn some simple tips on how to refer those they coach, to problem gambling specialists. Those who wish to take their skills even further can get info on the full-day “Intro to Problem Gambling for Peer and Recovery Coaches” with TOT program through ECPG.
Objectives
1)Learners will be able to define gambling, recreational gambling, problem gambling, and gambling disorder2)Learners will be able to answer the question, “what does problem gambling have to do with substance use and mental health?”3)Learners will be able to do a simple and evidenced-based problem gambling screening and referral process.
