Educator SEL: Preventing Teacher Burnout to Increase student SEL skills: A 3 part series
Research findings suggest that teachers trained in social-emotional wellness and interventions are more resilient and effective against the consequences of burnout symptoms. Teahcer burnout decreases positive classroom practices, postive decision making and postive classroom climate. This workshop will introduce a SEL tool for self-reflection. This tool will asses all 5 SEL Competencies. Educators will leave the session with an action plan to improve their own social emotional wellness and implement this into their classrooms for improved student social emotional wellness. This will ultimately create a better learning environment, more postive teacher-student relationships and more effective instruction leaving students with better academic performance, greater self-efficacy, and higher quality relationships both in and out of school.
Objectives
Learner Objectives: 1) Complete a self-assessment tool to assess personal strengths in SEL, learn how to model those strengths when interacting with students, and plan strategies to promote growth across areas of SEL competence. 2) Develop skills to model SEL and to embed into all content areas in their classrooms. 3) Design an action plan to prioritize SEL in order to create positive interactions with students, improve teacher decision making, create a supportive learning environment. and 4) Recognize when they are reaching their limits.
