Young People VS. People Young in Recovery
Considerations for Coaching Younger Generations
Join us for a discussion about Recovery Coaching with Young People, versus people “young” in recovery. How different are they? And does it matter? We’ll look at development, emotion, and life circumstances within the context of age, and then consider the language we use - do terms like “substance use disorder” and “recovery” align with how many Young People choose to identify themselves? Lastly, we’ll consider the concept of “age stigma,” and whether we have unintended bias towards younger generations. Can we truly treat them as resources?
Objectives
At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:•Explain key differences and similarities in the developmental, emotional, and life circumstance aspects of young people versus adults•Describe the meaning and implications of the language we use with young people•Understand the role of family in a young person’s process •Identify potential age bias in ourselves
