(ATDN) ELP Standards Implementation – Developing Lessons Using the ELP Standards

This workshop is intended for those using the ELP Standards and have completed the ELP Standards I and II.

This workshop will review some best practices for ESL classroom instruction. Some simple lesson plans will be presented that are based on the ELP Standards. The rigor has been increased for all Adult Education classes to help students transition into successful careers and/or higher education. This session is designed for the ESL teacher or ESL Lead Teacher who feels comfortable with the ELP Standards and has begun to create lessons and activities designed to introduce or reinforce the concepts described in the ELP Standards.

Participants will need their own devices as activities and resources will be shared electronically.

Audience: ESL Lead Teacher and ESL Teachers

Objectives
By the end of the session, participants should be able to:
  • Plan instruction that addresses a language learner’s background including English language proficiency level and reading ability.
  • Address multiple levels of proficiency during a given lesson by providing activities that engage learners of different levels.
