Play-Based Learning Forum
ACES is hosting a forum for school district leaders to discuss ideas for developing a framework for play-based learning in elementary school classrooms. New legislation guidance effective July 2024 mandates that school districts incorporate play-based learning for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten age students during the instructional day. In addition, districts are required to provide play-based learning professional development to all elementary educators (PK/K-Grade 5). Professional learning guidance includes using effective instructional strategies to integrate standards alongside developmentally appropriate practice. There will be considerations around embedding play-based learning in grades one to five.
Objectives
This forum will launch a variety of entry points to begin strategically planning for the implementation of play-based learning in PK/K classrooms and considerations for professional learning approaches. Participants will hear from a panel of regional educators who are currently implementing play-based learning, and will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and ACES professional learning specialists to plan next steps.
