Connecting Mind, Body and Emotion for Student Success
The research is compelling—students’ academic achievement is highly dependent on cognitive, physical, and emotional well-being. CASEL, the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning, identifies self-awareness and self-management as two important competencies for student success. How can we teach these important skills? Mindfulness, (awareness of the present moment with kindness and curiosity) and yoga, (mindful movement) help students become aware of their emotions, thoughts, and bodily sensations. This can have a positive impact on behavior, stress levels, relationships and the ability to focus and concentrate in and outside of school. In this workshop participants will: • Learn how mindfulness and yoga support all social and emotional learning programs • Experience mindfulness activities and mindful movement that can benefit teachers and student alike • Develop the skills and strategies for incorporating simple mindfulness, breathing, and movement activities with students K-12.
