Executive Function Skills
Executive function and self-regulation skills are the mental processes that enable us to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks successfully. The brain needs this skill set to filter distractions, prioritize tasks, set and achieve goals, and control impulses. These skills are crucial for learning and development. This virtual workshop will describe each executive function and its connection to learning.This asynchronous virtual workshop will allow participants to move at their own pace through the content. The workshop materials will be available from November 11, 2020 until January 2, 2021. Participants will learn strategies and create materials to support students to develop skills that all them to organize, prioritize and execute tasks throughout the school day whether in a virtual or traditional learning environment. The course instructor will be available for individualized support during the course window.
Objectives
Participants will: 1. describe the eight areas of executive function skills 2. connect executive function skills to reading, writing and math skill development and 3. explore strategies to develop executive function skills for students of all ages.
