K-12 Educator Workshop on Climate Change
Explore what climate change is, understand the factors that determine the climate of an ecosystem, and identify common misconceptions regarding weather, climate, and the ozone layer.
Objectives
Explore what climate change is, understand the factors that determine the climate of an ecosystem, and identify common misconceptions regarding weather, climate, and the ozone layer. Understand how carbon is an important part of life on Earth and explore how it moves through the atmosphere, oceans, plants, soils, and life in both short-term and long-term cycles. Understand that climate changes over time by investigating long-term climate changes to the average global temperature changes of the past 10,000 years. Learn how climate change affects the landscape of New England, real people, and specific ways of life in this part of the world. Introduce technologies and practices that exist today that can significantly reduce the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that are emitted.
Notes
You will receive 0.6 CEUs, a $100 stipend, free lessons and materials and a class field trip to the Yale Peabody Museum to experience the "Seasons of Change" exhibit. Breakfast and lunch will also be provided.
