CCRS ELA 101 Instructional Shifts, Text Complexity, & Vocabulary
Waterbury Adult Education Teachers Only.The College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) for Adult Education are a set of college and career readiness standards that reflect the content most relevant to preparing adult students for success in colleges, technical training programs, work and citizenship. In this session participants will investigate the standards and review the key Instructional Shifts identified in the areas of English/Language Arts. We will also discuss the importance of choosing texts of appropriate complexity and teaching academic vocabulary. Activities will encourage a deeper understanding of how to use standards when planning lessons in all content areas.
Objectives
Participants will become familiar with the CCRS document, describe the three key shifts, choose appropriate text for their adult learners, and identify academic vocabulary.
