An Administrator’s Guide and Toolkit for Implementing the Next Generation Science Standards
This full-day session will provide district administrators with an overview of the Next Generation Science Standards and implementation strategies to ensure sustainability. Participants will explore the standards' impact on teaching and learning, understand the aspects necessary for sustainable NGSS implementation, strategize for implementation within their districts, and discuss the facets of implementation with other district administrators. Each participant will receive a copy of the text "Guide to Implementing the Next Generation Science Standards" (NRC, 2015) to enhance and support their work in the district. A CREC-developed implementation tool-kit will scaffold the implementation process and assist in future district planning and decision-making.
Objectives
Participants will:* Understand NGSS' impacts on instruction, professional development, materials, assessment, collaboration, etc.* Understand the aspects necessary for sustainable NGSS implementation.* Strategize for implementation within their districts using CREC-developed tools and organizers.* Receive the reference text Guide to Implementing the Next Generation Science Standards.* Discuss the facets of implementation with other district administrators.
