Problem Solving 101-Teaching Kids Strategies for Problem Solving in the Real World
How do I become a better dancer? How can our group work together better on this project? How can humans reverse global warming? Kids and adults alike routinely are faced with problems in school and life, yet most loack the skills and structures necessary for solving them. This workshop, based on Ken Wantanbe's international best-selling book provides the tools for helping students resolve problems effectively. The tools and strategies provided allow participants to broaden and organize thinking about a problem so more possible solutions become clear. Participants will receive the text "Problem Solving 101: A Simple Book for Smart People" . Target audience is grade 6-12 teachers.
Objectives
Participants will: •develop an understanding of the aspects of effective problem resolution;•broaden and organize thinking about a variety of problems to find possible solutions;•engage in a variety problem solving activities in order to model effective problem resolution;•discuss how to use these strategies with students to develop their problem solving skills.
