Employing Engineering Practices in Middle & High School Science Classes
This workshop for middle and high school science teachers will provide an introduction to engineering’s place in the Next Generation Science Standards and how to begin incorporating it in science classrooms. The Next Generation Science Standards call for students to develop an understanding of engineering design and to engage in engineering practices when developing understandings of other science content areas. This presents opportunities to engage students in problem-solving activities in all science classes.
Objectives
Participants will develop an understanding of the engineering content and practices in the Next Generation Science Standards and how they relate to the science content and practices. Participants will receive exemplars of engineering-integrated science activities and identify opportunities to embed engineering in existing science lessons or units.
