Engaging Elementary & Middle School Students through Scientific Inquiry
This workshop for elementary and middle school teachers of science will explore how Inquiry-Based Learning deepens students’ understanding of content. Part of the vision of the Next Generation Science Standards is to engage students in the science and engineering practices of Inquiry in order to develop understandings of phenomena in the real world. Thus implementing the Standards will require shifting to the BSCS 5E or other instructional models that employ Inquiry-Based Learning.
Objectives
Participants will develop an understanding of Inquiry-Based Learning through hands-on experiences and the phenomena and science and engineering practices that support it. Participants will learn how to plan lessons for Inquiry-Based Learning and begin applying the strategies to a personal lesson or unit.
