21st CCLC After School Middle and High School Programs Meeting
21st CCLC After School Middle and High School Programs Meeting
After school programs for Middle and High schools have unique strengths and challenges. We invite you to explore ways to maximize on these strengths and draw from the knowledge of professionals in the field to address the challenges. These optional meetings are offered for 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21stCCLC) and state funded After School Program professionals working with middle and high school students.Main Topic for this Meeting: Girls Rock! But too often they are invisible, over-generalized or placed in narrow boxes. This upcoming Middle/High School meeting will help us examine how we address the vast needs of girls in our afterschool programs. With a critical lens we will ask ourselves how our own ideas of culture and femininity clash with how young ladies experience us and our helping efforts. Be prepared to discuss some of the following questions:•How do I currently build trust with the girls and young women, particularly girls of color, in my program?•How does my program support girls’ processes of self-discovery and validation?•Do my ideas or values about what it means to be a woman in any way interfere with my ability to build strong relationships with girls in my program?
