Using the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELP) in the classroom
In October 2016, the new English Language Proficiency Standards (ELP) for Adult Education were released by the American Institutes for Research (AIR). This document illustrates the connection between the College & Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and instruction for ESL students and addresses the urgent need for educational equity and rigor for adult English language learners (ELLs). Incorporating these standards into instruction at all levels will ensure that all adult ELLs can obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and self-sufficiency. This session will provide an overview of the ELP Standards and their connection to CCRS and look at how to begin using them for planning lessons. If you are not currently working with an AE program, there is a charge of $50/ ½ day session or $100/full day session; billed after completion of the workshop.
