Making Your Anchor Charts More Accessible, More Memorable and Easier to Use
This workshop is designed to provide classroom teachers, using the reading and writing workshop approach, with methods to help increase students’ active usage of anchor charts. The day will support creating anchor charts that help teachers thoughtfully design, create and critique these visual scaffolds. The instructor will start by discussing the components, characteristics and various types of anchor charts that can be created to ensure students’ transfer of literacy skills and strategies during independent reading and writing. Throughout the day teachers will witness chart making in action and will predict, plan, design and create meaningful anchor charts. This time will allow them to analyze and reflect on their past chart making. They will then discover methods to amp up anchor charts for reading and writing units. Finally, the instructor will introduce how teachers can increase students’ usage of anchor charts along with how these resources can be used in small group instruction and conferring to lift the level of student work.

Things to know -

·   Workshop registration does not include breakfast or lunch. Please feel free to bring your own food and beverage or visit the CREC Central Café (111 Charter Oak Ave.) which offers a variety of breakfast and lunch options with daily specials.

·   Bring a refillable water bottle and/or beverage.

·   Bring a laptop or other electronic device (some workshops require only laptop) for note taking and access to online resources.

·   Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of the workshop.

·   Sometimes workshop room temperatures can vary so we suggest you dress in layers.

·   Please check the CREC website or your local TV station for any delay/closing information.
