The Choices Approach: Teaching about Contested Historical Turning Points
Included are 2 Choice Units: The Civil War and the Meaning of Liberty and Immigration and the US Policy Debate
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to Choices award winning resources and approach to teaching about contested issues. Teachers will be immersed in the Choices Units: The Civil War and the Meaning of Liberty (new in 2019) and Immigration and the US Policy Debate (updated in Fall of 2018). Both resources bring new and diverse voices and perspectives to the classroom. Both curriculums are provided and teachers will discuss ways to adapt these programs for their classroom.
Objectives
Participants will experience lessons from these units, building confidence in how to teacher these topics in the classroom. Participants will learn ways to adapt the lessons to fit their district’s curriculum and their unique classroom needs.
Notes

Things to know -

·   Workshop registration does not include breakfast or lunch. Please feel free to bring your own food and beverage.

·   Bring a refillable water bottle and/or beverage.

·   Bring a laptop or other electronic device (some workshops require only laptop) for note taking and access to online resources.

·   Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of the workshop.

·   Sometimes workshop room temperatures can vary so we suggest you dress in layers.

·   Please check the CREC website or your local TV station for any delay/closing information.
