Yellow Farmhouse Education Center Program -Week 1 - ONLINE
Food in the Curriculum Digital Version - Our Food Tells a StoryOur food tells a story. The story begins with the soil, with the nutrients and the organisms building the ecosystem where our food grows. It continues with the people who grow our food and the story is nourished when we prepare and share meals with one another. Our memories and traditions keep these stories alive for future generations. This program - a mix of live meet-ups, videos, readings, and virtual activities - will explore the food stories that we can tell, beginning with our soil and ending with our personal connection to food. We will explore connections to curriculum, resources for students, and activities that can be done at home or in a classroom. Join for either week or for both weeks. Attendance is required on Mondays and Fridays from 4-4:30 but the rest of the week you can join live sessions or watch recordings. In addition, there will be weekly readings and activities to complete. All assignments listed below must be completed by Friday at 4pm. Week 1, May 18 - 22: The Role of Soil in our Food StoryIn week 1, we will focus on the role that soil plays as the foundation of our food system. Interviews with farmers, readings, and activities will provide insight into how maintaining soil health is integral to our health, the health of our environment, and the health of our communities. Participants will join live meetings and broadcasts with guest speakers and experts in the field. All teachers will be provided with access to a Google classroom with resources, activities, and recordings of all meetings to watch at their own pace.Week 1: May 18 - 22Join (Attendance required):Monday, May 18: 4:00 - 4:30 pm - Live check in, class kick off and introduction.
