Illustrative Mathematics High School Curriculum Overview
In this virtual workshop, we will take an initial dive into the Illustrative Mathematics High School Curriculum. First, we will discuss the philosophy and instructional shifts behind the Illustrative Mathematics Curriculum and Problem-Based Learning. Then we will breakdown the structure of lessons and assessments and the purpose of each component. We will explain the importance of math content routines and math language routines and how these practices support effective implementation, observation, and collaborative planning. We will also explore the resources available in the curriculum to support teachers, students, and families and how to use these resources the most effectively.
Objectives
Participants will be able to: describe the structure of a lesson and the purpose of each component in order to support teacher planning and implementation; locate teacher, student, and family resources in the curriculum to support effective use of the resources; explain the purposes of different curriculum assessments; identify multiple opportunities for assessment; describe how instructional supports and extensions are used throughout the curriculum; explain the purpose of math content routines in a lesson to support effective implementation, observation, and collaborative planning; explain the purpose of Math Language Routines in the curriculum to support effective implementation, observation, and collaborative planning.
