Easing Student (and adult!) Transition Back to School
Transitions can be hard. Even though educators and parents hope for a smooth start, the transition back to school this fall will be extra challenging for many. Difficulty with transitions can manifest in a number of ways including resistance, avoidance, stress/anxiety and a lack of ability to focus, concentrate and learn. These challenging behaviors are most often the result of being overwhelmed by emotions. Teaching students to recognize and deal with difficult emotions is the foundation of all social emotional learning. Incorporating age appropriate breathing techniques and mindful movement into your work with students can be tremendously helpful in reducing stress and anxiety which is critical for academic success. It can also be a gift to your students that lasts a life time. In this workshop, you will: · Understand how recognizing and managing emotions is foundational to ALL social emotional learning · Learn how to teach simple age-appropriate breathing techniques that benefit children and adults alike · Explore a variety of mindful movement activities to be done anywhere to connect mind-body in “real time” for stress reduction and well-being.
