Moving Matters
Students (of all ages) are sedentary for longer and longer stretches of time which can have a negative impact on academic achievement as well as overall health. In addition, stress, which is common among children and teens, makes it difficult to focus and concentrate. Being and relaxed in mind and body is a pre-requisite to learning. But how can a teacher incorporate physical breaks without sacrificing valuable instructional time? Using simple yoga stretches and breathing techniques throughout the class period or day can enhance focus and concentration, ease anxiety and create a sense of connectedness in your classroom. Participants will: • Explore the connection between learning readiness and feeling safe and comfortable in body and mind • Learn simple breathing exercises and yoga stretches that can be easily integrated throughout the day without any special equipment, space or training • Have fun and reduce stress for both students and teachers!
