Working with Students with Hearing Loss: An Introduction
This full-day, in-person opportunity is designed as an introduction to working with students with hearing loss,with a focus on communication through listening and spoken language. During this interactive session, participants will explorea broad range of topics that impact students with hearing loss and apply effective strategies and best practices into their educational environment.
Objectives

Learners will be able to

  • Define the roles of TOD/HH and EdAuDs
  • Compare direct vs. indirect services for students with hearing loss
  • Explain the impact of hearing loss on a student’s educational, environmental, and social experiences
  • Support student advocacy as it relates to hearing loss
  • Identify various personal and remote microphone devices
  • Experience troubleshooting and connecting techniques in remote microphone use
  • Determine appropriate audiological evaluation recommendations
  • Experience Educational Audiology evaluation in the booth
  • Articulate the importance and impact of classroom acoustics
  • Create tools to use in their educational environment
  • Demonstrate listening and spoken language strategies and best practices to use in their classrooms
