Module 1 - Literacy 101 for Leaders & Phonological Awareness: What to See in Practice (2023-2024)
The Science of Reading (SOR) Module 1 Literacy 101 for Leaders Phonological Awareness: What to See in Practice is a collaboration between the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) and the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS).

This module is a hands-on, interactive online course that provides district and school leaders with a deeper understanding of phonological awareness, how to support teachers with implementing the various components that are vital in learning to read, and how to best engage families.

As a result of this training, administrators will:

  • Deepen their understanding of how oral language, and phonological and phonemic awareness influence students’ abilities to understand and use knowledge of sound structures for listening, speaking, reading, and writing
  • Increase their ability to support the teaching and development of oral language and phonological and phonemic awareness in their school and /or district
