Strategies for Increasing Reading Comprehension in Students with Learning Disabilities
It is the unusual adult education class that does not include a student who struggles with reading comprehension. Strategies that work for students with diagnosed learning disabilities [LD] work for all students who struggle reading. This workshop is exclusively focused on increasing reading comprehension for these students, For many of them vocabulary acquisition and instruction are the most challenging reading skill sets. We will explore the best practices of teaching vocabulary directly and indirectly as well as the use of multiple strategies simultaneously and or consecutively. Participants will develop insight into the use of specific LD strategies for all students. This workshop is a repeat of the Spring semester 2015 Disability Workshop brought back by popular demand with expanded content to reflect newly developed evidence based research and strategies.
Objectives
To explore the best practices of teaching vocabulary directly and indirectly as well as the use of multiple strategies simultaneously and or consecutively.
