Using the English Language Proficiency Standards in the Classroom
In October 2016, the new English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards (ELP) for Adult Education were released by American Institutes for Research (AIR). The ELP Standards for AE strongly emphasize the academic language needed by ELLs to engage with and meet the College & Career Readiness Standards in order to acquire the language knowledge and skills necessary to achieve their postsecondary and career goals. They address the need for educational equity and rigor for adult English language learners (ELLs) to ensure that all adult ELLs can obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and self-sufficiency. This session will introduce the ELP Standards and their connection to CCRS and provide some examples of what they look like in classroom activities. If you are not currently working with an AE program, there is a charge of $50/ ½ day session or $100/full day session; billed after completion of the workshop.
