CREC Arts Council Workshop-Learning Through Art (Grades K-5)
K-5: Building Empathy in Elementary Students Through Art
Can Art help us see the world through someone else’s eyes? In this workshop, explore Art through guided looking and related storybooks. Then, pair up to learn more about your partner and create an artwork that reflects the way that your partner sees the world. Johanna Miller, School and Teacher Programs Specialist at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, who is responsible for developing, teaching, and evaluating PreK-12 school programs and teacher professional development at the Wadsworth Atheneum, will lead the workshop.
Objectives
Elementary teachers will learn techniques focusing on the use of art as a tool to build empathy. Participants will have an opportunity to go into the museum to see some pieces they are highlighting in their workshop.
