If You’re Reading This It’s Not Too Late: Management, Routines, and Resources that Build Independence in Reading Workshop
The workshop will support educators who are new to Reading Workshop and those that would like additional ideas to enhance their practice, with resources and tools to improve student independence during independent reading time. The session will give educators various ways to manage their Reading Workshop for grades 3-6 who may be using Teachers College Reading and Writing Project kits in their districts or classrooms. Participants will experience ways to improve their Reading Workshop by reviewing resources and engaging in dialogue with colleagues who have reading workshops up and running in their classrooms. The workshop will cover topics such as building a classroom library, getting students to read, room set-up, building reading partnerships and clubs, writing about reading routines, and looking at if-then scenarios common in a Reading Workshop.
Objectives
Upon completion of the day long workshop, participants will have a toolkit of resources and strategies to begin implementing an engaging Reading Workshop that builds independent readers.
