NGSS Bootcamp
CREC Elementary and Secondary Teachers of Science Only
Gather with colleagues from other schools to dig deep into the essential instructional strategies of the Next Generation Science Standards. During this two-day session, we will see how phenomena can drive instruction for truly three-dimensional learning through an immersive experience. Teachers will put on their student hats to explore and explain scientific happenings, while wearing their teacher hats for reflective opportunities to think about their own teaching practices. Through their investigations, participants will have the opportunity to understand the foundational elements of the new science standards and the instructional shifts that accompany them. This session is designed for teachers newer to NGSS, but is appropriate for those with some experience as well.
Objectives
During the sessions, participants will engage with a phenomena to: Dive into the instructional strategies associated with the science and engineering practices of modeling, argumentation, asking questions, and obtaining, evaluating and communicating information. Leverage the power of the crosscutting concepts for empowering critical thinkers. Consider best practices for supporting all students during instruction
